7 Better Ways to Prepare for Your Exam

This article assumes that your exam is less than a month way away, and gives you some great advice on how to handle the coming tests and what to do to make sure you do better. It is revision time, but a few of these tips may help to put things in perspective.

1 - Learn through the year and create easy reference notes

At the end of the day, this is what you should have been doing all year. If you have been sitting on ass for the last eleven months then there is very little you can achieve at this very last stage. Knowing that the game is nearly up and it is nearly time for scores is not a bad thing. If you have worked hard over the year, then now is when you get your rewarded for it. If you have sat around doing very little then this is where you get your just deserts.

How to Avoid Bogus Colleges and Their Worthless “Degrees”

In a world where technology evolves at a pace as rapid as it has for the last couple of decades, the importance of a good education cannot be overstated. Add to that our growing insistence upon instant gratification, not to mention the astronomical cost of a 4-year undergraduate degree, and the promise of obtaining a degree almost instantaneously, at little cost, and based solely upon your “life experiences” starts sounding quite attractive.

The downside to such “degrees” is that they are typically worthless as a springboard to any career that demands actual knowledge. Furthermore, claiming to hold a degree from one of these “degree mills” will likely be a black mark on the resume of anyone applying for a position with a reputable company. And while these faux degrees cost far less than does a real education, the cost versus benefit of getting one renders them no bargain at all. Fortunately, there are a few simple things you can look out for to avoid being taken for a ride by one of the degree mills. Let’s start by looking at some of the “red flags” that indicate that the college – and by extension, the degrees it offers – are bogus.

The Emile-Boutmy Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible students are those, first time applicants, from a non-European Union state, whose household does not file taxes within the European Union, and who have been admitted to the Undergraduate or Master's programme.

University of the People Scholarships

University of the People (UoPeople) is the world’s first non-profit, tuition-free, accredited online academic institution dedicated to opening access to higher education globally for all qualified individuals, despite financial, geographic or societal constraints.

With its tuition-free online programs, University of the People is opening access to higher education for all those constrained, as well as building a scalable and replicable model capable of changing the very nature of higher education. The non-profit UoPeople has managed to succeed in cutting down almost the entire cost of higher education, and does not charge for tuition or books/materials. All that is asked is for students to pay a one-time application processing fee ($50) and subsequent modest examination processing fees ($100) levied per course. There are no other fees whatsoever.

For students unable to pay the Exam Processing Fees, UoPeople works extremely hard to ensure that no student of UoPeople is left out of higher education for financial reasons. Students are invited to apply for scholarships after being admitted to the university and completing a scholarship application form. These keen cultural explorers will travel to Italy and discover the history and techniques that makes Italian food a star on the world’s stage – as well as the vibrant people that keep these traditions alive through their passion and dedication.

Each recipient will spend one week in a different region of Italy where they will meet their Italian ‘mentors’ – speaking to local farmers and artisan providores, making pastas in nonnas’ kitchens, and getting your hands dirty pruning vines, milking goats and making salamis. In that time, each recipient will be followed by a cameraman to document their experiences as they uncover new techniques, tastes and atttudes towards food and living.

Global Change Leaders Program 2014

The Global Change Leaders Program is a seven-week education program offered by Coady Institute’s International Centre for Women’s Leadership. This program enables women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their organizations and communities.  Program participants engage in learning grounded in real world experiences and focused on Coady’s core thematic areas. Through a shared learning environment with other emerging women leaders from around the world, participants are exposed to a range of experiences and the beginnings of a potentially lifelong network of support.

Merit Next Leadership Development Program

This unique program will support 120 young people to develop and to use their talent in the spheres of Entrepreneurship, Business, Science & Technology, Media, Culture and Politics & Public Service through mentoring with professionals and networking with peers. It is year-long leadership development program for people of merit from around the world selected after completing a series of global challenges designed to showcase their commitment to making a positive impact in their community.

In June 2014, the Merit Next Fellows will convene in the U.K. (London & Liverpool) for two weeks of inspiration, aspiration assessment, and team building. Before departing for their home countries, the participants will be divided into 10 teams and assigned a project to find an innovative and sustainable market-driven solution to a pressing global concern (e.g., environmental sustainability, access to health care and education, childhood hunger, and youth unemployment).

The International Millennium Youth Camp is a free of charge programme addressed to young people worldwide interested in mathematics, natural sciences, information technology and other sciences. The camp focuses on these themes: environmental science and technology; climate change; renewable natural resources and energy; water; information and communication technology and digitalisation; and applied mathematics. It includes lectures, workshops, visits to companies and universities and time for social activities. The camp will take place on 3 – 11 June 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.

Cambridge Law Faculty PhD Studentships for 2014

The Law Faculty of the University of Cambridge is offering up to 3 studentships for new PhD students commencing doctoral research in 2014/15. The value of a Scholarship will be up to £20,000 each year for three years. They are available for Home UK/EU and Overseas students undertaking full time research towards a PhD in private law, corporate law or tax law, with annual renewal subject to satisfactory academic performance. Studentships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and research potential.

 

The studentships include a requirement that scholars contribute to the Law Faculty as part of their research training, in the form of providing up to 10 hours a week of teaching (in term time) on the LLM in private law papers (International Commercial Litigation, Law of Restitution, Commercial Equity), corporate law papers (Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Corporate Insolvency), or tax law papers (International Commercial Taxation).
