We are pleased to announce, on behalf of the Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe (EICEE), the Hudson Institute and the Kairos Journal, a major international conference - Vienna Forum 2010 on The Future of Europe and the Question of Islam. This international conference will take place at the headquarters of the Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe, in Vienna’s Castle Neuwaldegg, over the weekend of May 6-9, 2010. The previous meeting of The Vienna Forum, in May 2008, was a great success and drew a pool of distinguished international participants.
The conference will examine the political, economic, religious, philosophical and cultural questions surrounding the identity of Europe and the process of integrating Islam therein. The event will host many notable speakers among whom are H.S.H. Prince Hans Adams von Liechtenstein and former President of Spain Jose Maria Aznar.
The purpose of this weekend summit is to engage in a conversation on the state of Europe, democracy, and culture. We will also evaluate and discuss the ramifications of religious thought upon European political, economic and cultural traditions. In addition, we will examine the situation in Europe in regard to the Islamic integration process.
An assumption underlying this meeting of The Vienna Forum 2010 is that governments and politicians cannot successfully treat these difficult issues alone. We have therefore invited religious leaders, philosophers, academics, politicians and journalists. These participants, who represent a wide range of opinions, will widen and deepen the debate.
There will be a limited number of participants from all over Europe and the US. Interested participants may join us for a high level discussion on Europe and its future. Participants from the CEE region are offered a reduced fee of 100 EUR for registration (costs included are food and the option of reduced rate accommodation near Castle Neuwaldegg).
To apply, please send CV with the registration form by email to Mark Hanssen at: hanssenm@eicee.org, and you will be notified of your acceptance as soon as possible. To obtain registration form and to learn further details about the program, please contact Mark Hanssen at: hanssenm@eicee.org.
