9th Annual PSSI Summer School

The 9th Annual PSSI Summer School “NATO’s Security Challenges” will be held on July 7–12, 2013 in Měřín, Czech Republic, in cooperation with NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division.

Objective:
The main objective of Summer School is to offer a high-profile study course for students currently enrolled in Master’s degree programs, based on presentations, interactive workshops and simulations with international security experts from academia and government fields.


Eligibility:
Students currently enrolled in Master’s degree programs in Political Science, International Relations and Economics and other relevant fields from NATO’s member and partner countries.

Agenda includes topics such as:
  • Cybersecurity
  • Energy security
  • NATO-Russia relations
  • NATO and the US Pivot
  • Afghanistan after 2014
  • US and EU perspective on NATO’s security challenges

Jiří Schneider, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Czech Republic; Dr. Andrew Monaghan, Research Fellow, Chatham House, UK; Keir Giles, Director, Conflict Studies Research Center, U.K.; Amb. Vaclav Bartuška, Ambassador-at-large for Energy Security, Czech Republic; Dr. Petr Luňák, Deputy Head, Public Diplomacy Division, NATO; Kurt Volker, Executive Director of the McCain Institute and former US Permanent Representative to NATO; Robert Cooper, Counsellor, European External Action Service, UK; Roger W. Robinson, Jr.,PSSI Co-Founder and former Senior Director of International Economic Affairs, National Security Council, USA; Amb. Petr Pelz, PSSI Executive Director and former Czech Ambassador to Afghanistan.

Application:
Please download the application form and send it filled-out, along with your CV and essay to christensen@pssi.cz by June 1, 2013. The selected participants will be notified by June 8, 2013.

Costs:
Registration fee amounts to 2000,- Kc / 80 EUR. Accommodation and meals will be fully covered by organizers; foreign participants’ travel expenses will be partially reimbursed (not applicable to those selected students from the Czech Republic or Slovakia). Participants will receive more information upon their selection.
